Authorities in both countries blamed each other for the armed clash.
Armed clashes have erupted in the border area between Pakistan and Afghanistan, TOLOnews television channel reported, citing the head of the Information and Culture Directorate of Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, Zabihullah Noorani.
Nurani said Pakistani troops opened fire on the forces of Afghanistan's ruling Taliban in Shah Kot district of Nazyan county this afternoon, to which the latter responded by firing back. He added that the clashes have now stopped, the Taliban forces have not suffered losses.
As noted by Reuters, the version of the Afghan authorities differs from the statements of the Pakistani side. A spokesman for Pakistani Prime Minister Mosharraf Zaidi told the agency in comments that the Taliban had opened "unprovoked fire" along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
"Pakistani security forces responded immediately and effectively, suppressing Taliban aggression," Zaidi said. He warned that any further provocation would be met with an "immediate and stern response."
