The 300 restrictive measures will affect energy, finance, shadow fleet and companies in third countries.
On the fourth anniversary of the start of the war in Ukraine, Britain imposed nearly 300 restrictive measures against Russia's energy and financial industries, shadow navy, and companies in third countries that help Russia purchase military products.
"International sanctions have already deprived Putin of more than $450 billion - an amount equal to two years of spending on his illegal war," the British government said in a statement. - Russia's economy has been stagnant for a year now, its revenues plummeting rapidly, with oil revenues hitting their lowest level since 2020. In an effort to compensate for the loss of revenue, the Kremlin has been forced to raise taxes on ordinary Russians, including VAT and income tax."
The British sanctions hit Transneft, one of the world's largest oil pipeline companies, responsible for transporting more than 80% of Russia's oil exports.Other energy targets include Rosatom structures, including Rusatom Overseas, as well as LNG plants on the Gulf of Finland coast - Gazprom LNG Portovaya and Kriogaz-Vysotsk LNG (a joint venture between Novatek and Gazprombank).
The sanctions also hit 175 companies from the 2Rivers network, which has effectively become the main tanker operator in Russia's shadow fleet. Formerly called Coral, it was created by Azerbaijani businessmen Tahiri Garayev and Etibar Eyyub. The latter is close to Rosneft head Igor Sechin, who, British law enforcement and financial authorities reported in 2025, provides Eyyub and Garayev with "privileged access" to the company's products. The blacklist also included 48 tankers involved in transporting Russian oil to circumvent sanctions.
Financial Times identified at least 48 companies in Eyub and Garayev's network through the fact that they all shared the same private email server.
The UK also dealt a blow to the banking sector by placing Posta Bank, Tochka Bank, Transcapitalbank, Absolut Bank, Sinara Bank, Avers Bank, Lanta Bank, Fora Bank and Ak-Bars Bank on the sanctions list.
The sanctions were imposed on 49 organizations and individuals "involved in providing Russia's war machine, including international suppliers who supply vital goods, components and technology for Russian drones and other weapons that terrorize innocent Ukrainian citizens," the statement said. Companies from China, India, Thailand, and the UAE fell under the restrictive measures.
In total, more than 3,000 individuals, companies and ships are now under British sanctions.
Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper, visiting Kiev on the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion, announced 30 million pounds ($40.5 million) for Ukraine's energy sector and for rebuilding the country. This will bring cumulative aid since the war began to 21.8 billion pounds ($29.4 billion).
