CNN: Trump Wants A 'big Ceremony' For Peace Signing

But Zelensky has a condition.

U.S. President Donald Trump wants to sign an agreement on security guarantees and ending the war in Ukraine during a large-scale ceremony, but Ukraine requires prior congressional approval.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said this, according to CNN.

"Security guarantees, especially the question of how Ukraine's allies will react if Russia invades Ukraine again in the future, remain a stumbling block," Zelensky said.

He said allies constantly say that Russia will simply not start another war, but that is not the answer.

"There are positive aspects in these security guarantees, it's true. But I want a very specific answer: what our partners will be prepared to do if Russian Federation comes again. This is what Ukrainians want to hear," he added.

According to the Ukrainian president, there are also disagreements about the sequence of steps to peace. For example, Trump wants Zelensky to sign the peace agreement with Russia and the security guarantees agreement at the same time, ideally at a big ceremony that would mark the end of the war.

But Zelensky insists that the security guarantees must first be agreed upon and ratified by the US Congress.

He believes this would give the Ukrainian people confidence that they can rely on their allies in the future.
