Suspects In Serbia Detained For Preparing An Assassination Attempt On Vucic
Aleksandar Vucic

The "conspiracy" charge comes amid ongoing protests in the country.

In Serbia, law enforcers reported the detention of two men suspected of preparing "actions against the constitutional order and security" of the country, in particular planning an assassination attempt on President Alexandar Vucic.

The Serbian Interior Ministry said this in a statement, European Truth reported.

The ministry said the two detainees are suspected of plotting to "violently change the constitutional order of the Republic of Serbia and overthrow the highest state bodies" between December 2025 and February 2026.

The Interior Ministry statement said the men planned to buy weapons and make an assassination attempt on President Vucic and his family.

In addition, according to law enforcers, the suspects also planned to attack employees of the Interior Ministry.

The suspects will be held in custody for up to 48 hours and, together with a criminal complaint, will be taken to the High Prosecutor's Office in Kraljevo, the Interior Ministry added.

As is known, anti-government protests are periodically held in Serbia, demanding early parliamentary elections.

They started after a canopy collapsed at the Novi Sad train station on November 1, 2024, killing 16 people.

The protesters demand punishment for those responsible for the tragedy, as well as a stronger fight against corruption and early elections.
