New details have emerged.
New details have emerged about the Russian Mi-8MTV-5 multipurpose helicopter, which was destroyed on September 29, 2025 by soldiers of the 1st Unmanned Systems Battalion "Predators of Heights" of the 59th separate assault brigade. The aerial target was hit by an FPV drone in the Pokrovsky direction, writes UNIAN.
The video with the remains of the helicopter was released by the pilot of the attack drone call sign Baltica, who directly attacked the vehicle. Technical details were cited by the Telegram channel "Demilitarization DB".
According to publicized information, it was possible to identify the aircraft as "71 Blue" (registration RF-91147, serial number B0093). The helicopter was part of the 487th Independent Helicopter Regiment from the Budennovsk airfield in Russia's Stavropol region. The unit is considered one of the most capable in Russia's army aviation and has experience in local conflicts.
Crew and casualties
Sources say the aircraft was commanded by Senior Lieutenant Mikhail Avramenko. Despite a fire in the cockpit, he tried to land the machine. The helicopter did not collapse in mid-air, but made a hard landing already engulfed in flames.
The other crew members and paratroopers were on board. The navigator suffered severe burns but survived - he was evacuated for emergency treatment. The flight technician was also injured, he was saved. At the same time, six soldiers of the paratroopers died on the spot.
Attack by FPV drone
The helicopter was shot down by one of the most experienced pilots of the unit with the call sign Baltika. He used a Shrike 10 FPV drone equipped with a PG-7M warhead to engage the target.
The reconnaissance drones provided target detection and navigation for the strike drone. Another FP-1 drone monitored the strike and recorded the moment of destruction.
Aircraft destruction by FPV drone
This is the second recorded case in history when an FPV drone successfully destroyed an attack helicopter in the air.
It was previously reported that Ukraine's Special Operations Forces for the first time shot down a Russian helicopter, probably an Mi-28, which was attempting to intercept Ukrainian drones by using a "deep strike" drone.
The events reportedly took place near the village of Kuteynikovo in Russia's Rostov region - about 190 kilometers from the battle line.
