The information was voiced by Whitkoff.
The US says it has "good news" regarding negotiations to end the Russia-Ukraine war. It announced a possible meeting between Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
The meeting is allegedly possible "in the next three weeks," and U.S. President Donald Trump may join it. Such a statement in an interview with Fox News was made by Trump's special envoy Steve Whitkoff.
Whitkoff announced a meeting between Zelensky and Putin
According to Whitkoff, a meeting between Zelensky and Putin could take place as early as the next three weeks. He does not rule out that the US president will also join them.
Trump's special envoy called the Russian-Ukrainian war "senseless." He sees its causes as a "dispute over territory" in which Ukraine and Russia cannot find "consensus."
"Jared (Kushner, Trump's son-in-law. - Ed.) and I hope that the proposals we put on the table will bring the sides together in the next three weeks and perhaps lead to a summit between Zelensky and Putin. Perhaps it will be a trilateral meeting with President (Trump - Ed.). We'll see," Whitkoff said.
He also emphasized that Trump doesn't want to meet if he realizes that the meeting won't produce any results.
"He has a unique ability to do that. I hope you will hear good news in the coming weeks," he stressed.
Whitkoff also complained that he was criticized for his numerous meetings with Putin. And he, he said, was only trying to "get a good understanding of the other side's position." To do so, he had already traveled to Moscow eight times.
