Belarusians and Iranians supported Nikolai Statkevich and their fellow political prisoners. A joint action was held today in the center of Vilnius.
It was attended by about 50 people. The participants of the action expressed solidarity with their compatriots who are imprisoned in their homeland and called on Western countries to put more pressure on the Khamenei and Lukashenko regimes, the "Basta!".
Belarusians came to the rally with portraits of opposition leader Nikolai Statkevich, who left prison after suffering a stroke on February 19.
"Many of the participants in today's rally held portraits of Nikolai Statkevich. This is not only a demonstration of support and sincere joy for his release, but also a reminder to the free world: the life and health of the opposition leader are at risk. Today there are no human rights organizations and independent media in Belarus. The only guarantee for Nikolai Statkevich to receive professional medical care is the constant attention of Western diplomats and international organizations," - said one of the organizers of the action, coordinator of the civil campaign "European Belarus" Evgeny Afnagel.
"Nikolai Statkevich needs medical care and rehabilitation after a stroke. There is a danger that the Lukashenko regime will prevent this. There is a danger that the availability or lack of medicines will become a lever of pressure on him or his relatives. We need the attention of human rights organizations and politicians to this problem", - said an associate of Nikolai Statkevich Sergei Sparysh.
