Market participants said there was a critical decline in inventories.
Disruptions in the supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) have begun in Russian regions. The shortage of LPG is observed in Nizhny Novgorod, Yaroslavl, Volgograd Regions, Moscow Region and Tatarstan, writes "Kommersant". Market participants said that stocks are critically low.
The Real-Invest group of companies reported that some gas stations were forced to close due to delays in deliveries by rail, which began in February. According to the GC, about 2.5 thousand tons of gas have accumulated at Sergach station and are not unloaded. At the same time, the company has under-received 1.8 thousand tons of fuel, which is equivalent to a month's sales of the entire network.
Real-Invest warned that the current situation jeopardizes contracts with state and municipal institutions, including military units and bus fleets.
Similar problems have been complained about by other market participants. "In the Nizhny Novgorod region we are still holding on, but we are running out of money. In Volgograd, Ivanovo and Yaroslavl we have run out of gas. It's hard," said a representative of Oka-Propane. The company noted that the fuel crisis was the result not only of logistical problems on the side of Russian Railways, but also of the policy of producer plants, which purposefully gave most of the liquefied gas for export back in December, leading to a shortage on the domestic market.
The gas station chain Gazenergoset-NN said they had fuel left for three or four days, and some gas filling stations were already empty. "All the gas is abandoned at various railroad stations and it doesn't reach the addressees... We don't know what the reasons are. For example, Arzamas-2: cars have been standing there for three weeks already. This is not only with us. In Kazan the same difficulties, in the Moscow region", - noted in the company.
Now Russia mainly sells liquefied petroleum gas to Turkey, India, Afghanistan, China and Central Asian countries against the background of the cessation of supplies to Europe due to sanctions.
Reuters estimates that in December 2025 and January 2026 rail shipments of LPG to China showed a historical maximum - 65 thousand tons. This is almost 1.5 times higher than the average monthly figure for 2025 - about 43 thousand tons per month.
In general, last year, rail shipments of LPG to China jumped by 77% compared to 2024 and amounted to 520 thousand tons. In addition, Russia sold 20-25 thousand tons of fuel to Beijing every month by road from border gas filling stations.
