Media: A New War Could Start On February 21

The U.S. plans to launch strikes against Iran.

The United States could conduct a special operation in Iran as early as next Saturday, February 21, Western media reported. The White House held a meeting in the Situation Room, and diplomatic and military personnel are being transferred to Europe or returned to Washington, writes Focus.

U.S. President Donald Trump has not yet decided on the exact timing of a strike on Iran, but a military group in the Mediterranean Sea and Indian Ocean has moved into strike positions and is ready for action, according to a CBS News media article. The tentative time of the attack is February 21, but a postponement is possible.

Media spoke to several unnamed White House sources who spoke about possible U.S. plans for Iran. It emerged that Washington is weighing whether to escalate the situation or politically-military containment. However, over the next three days, US personnel will be withdrawn to safe locations as they expect retaliatory strikes from Tehran. At the same time, another journalist interlocutor noted that standard procedure before potential US military activity is taking place, but that does not mean it will necessarily happen. In addition, it is known that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit Israel in two weeks, but it is not yet clear what the purpose of the visit will be, the article said.

"All military forces deployed in the region are expected to be in place by mid-March," sources told CBS News.

Media cited a comment by White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt following talks in Geneva between U.S. and Iranian representatives. She said the sides were "very far apart on some issues" and Trump gave Tehran a few more weeks to respond on some issues. At the same time, sources at Mar-a-Lago told reporters that Washington may agree to an Israeli strike on Iran's ballistic program, CBS News wrote.

Iranian leader Ali Khamenei issued an X message on Feb. 18 in response to the arrival of the U.S. naval armada. The official wrote about the great danger to the aircraft carrier Gerald Ford: a generated video shows U.S. threats and the ship on the ocean floor. Khamenei's other messages concern the Ramadan holiday, which runs from Feb. 17 to March 30.

In the meantime, Axios Media revealed on February 18 what kind of military grouping the US has assembled near Iran. Among other things, we are talking about two aircraft carriers (Abraham Lincoln and Gerald Ford), dozens of warships, hundreds of fighter jets, air defense systems. Part of the armada has arrived on the scene, and part is still en route. In addition, 150 air flights carrying military supplies have taken place and 50 F-35, F-22 and F-16 fighter jets have arrived in the region.
