U.S. Military Tells Trump It Is Ready To Strike Iran On Feb. 21

There are dynamic and ongoing discussions about the military operation in the White House.

The US army is ready to strike Iran this Saturday, February 21. US President Donald Trump has been informed about this by senior national security officials, CBS News writes, citing knowledgeable sources.

The TV station's interlocutors said Trump has not made a final decision yet, but there are "dynamic and ongoing" discussions on the issue in the White House. In particular, the risks of escalation are being weighed, as well as "the political and military consequences of restraint."

One of CBS's sources pointed out that the Pentagon has been temporarily transferring some military personnel from the Middle East to Europe and back to the United States in recent days. He said such a move usually happens before a possible military operation to protect the U.S. military in the event of an Iranian response.

In the meantime, White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt said there are "many reasons and arguments for striking Iran," but Trump is relying primarily on diplomacy. "It would make a lot of sense for Iran to make a deal with President Trump and his administration," Livitt emphasized.

The day before, a US presidential adviser told Axios that the US military would strike Iran in the near future with a 90% probability. He said the operation would be a campaign "more like a full-scale war" than pinpoint strikes. Against this backdrop, Israel has declared the highest level of readiness for war. According to the Mako publication, Tel Aviv will probably not stay on the sidelines and join the campaign. In doing so, Israeli officials expect to topple the Iranian regime and eliminate its nuclear and missile programs.

February 17, the second round of talks between Washington and Tehran over Iran's nuclear program was held in Oman. According to Reuters, the U.S. conditioned Tehran to submit detailed proposals to resolve the differences within two weeks. Earlier, in June 2025, a similar ultimatum led to the launch of Operation Midnight Hammer, a series of strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities.
