This revives a proposal that was included in previous peace plans.
During peace talks, Ukraine and Russia discussed the idea of a demilitarized zone in Donbass that would involve the absence of the armies of both countries.
This was reported by The New York Times.
The publication's sources said that during consultations in recent weeks, Ukraine and the aggressor country discussed the idea of a demilitarized zone that would not be controlled by either army.
"This revives a proposal that was included in previous peace plans, including the 28-point plan put forward by the Trump (US president, - ed.) administration in November," the publication wrote.
It is noted that in order to make it easier for both sides to accept the idea, negotiators have also discussed creating a free trade zone in any possible demilitarized zone.
The NYT notes, however, that it would be difficult to create a free trade zone in an area that would be sandwiched between the two armies.
