The Belarusian National Freestyle Team Criticized The Judging In The Finals Of The Olympics

The team's former head coach thinks otherwise.

After the final results of the ski acrobats at the Games in Italy, the Belarusian team criticized the judges, reports sport5.by.

"I did everything 100%. You saw for yourself that it was clean and good. And further already... It's all up to the judges. I don't have any comments. If I fell somewhere, I could blame myself and say that I didn't do 100%, but I did it," said Anna Guskova.

According to the Belarusian, she and other colleagues on the national team "should be given monuments for the fact that in such a short period of time they managed to qualify for the Olympics with the girls and show everything they are capable of".

"I'm in such a state now that I'm just in shock and don't understand what happened. But I'm glad that I fulfilled my program. Some jumps had to be done at once. As the saying goes, you can't beat skill," Anna added.

But the longtime mentor of the Belarusian freestyle team Nikolai Kozeko, who was actually suspended from practical work for his civic position after the events in 2020, found the reason for Guskova's not the highest result in another, writes betnews.by.

- Basically, these jumps Anya did for the third Olympics. Another thing is that the referees look at the performances of the Olympic champion of Pyeongchang and silver medalist of Beijing and they want such a famous athlete to move forward and complicate the program accordingly to her regalia. That's why they didn't expect high scores from them. In the final we had to show that Anya is still the favorite. Here, I think, there was a miscalculation on her part or on the part of the coaching staff - I don't know for sure, for this you have to be in the thick of things. She should have declared a triple somersault with two pirouettes, which Guskova successfully performed in her second attempt. Then she would have made it into the top six, which would have been in contention for the medals. But Anya, as we saw, performed the qualification jump again and ended up only tenth [after the first jump in the final round].

According to Kozeko, the quality of jumps in the Olympic finals was "very high" - eight people scored over 100 points at once.

The specialist also called Guskova a "super athlete" and expressed regret that the career of the "most talented" 2019 world champion Alexandra Romanovskaya, who was fired from the national team after August-2020 allegedly due to absenteeism, ended.
