Hungary Halts Diesel Exports To Ukraine

The Orban government is demanding that the Druzhba oil pipeline be restored to operation.

Hungary has stopped exporting diesel fuel to Ukraine and has no plans to resume it until the oil supply through the Druzhba trunk oil pipeline is restored. This was stated by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó during his speech, writes Index.

He said that the halt of diesel supplies was a direct consequence of the cessation of Russian oil transit.

"Diesel supplies to Ukraine will not resume until the Ukrainians resume transportation of crude oil through the Druzhba pipeline," the Hungarian diplomat said.

At the same time, Szijjártó noted that Hungary played an important role in providing Ukraine with energy resources, particularly gas, electricity and diesel fuel. That is why he called the decision to stop diesel exports a response to the situation with oil transit.

The minister added that Hungary had "ensured its own energy security". The country has reserves for more than three months and is working on alternative oil supply routes, particularly by sea.

"Hungary and Slovakia are also using the opportunity provided by the European Union's decision, according to which both Hungary and Slovakia can import Russian crude oil by sea until pipeline transportation is restored," Szijjártó added.

He said a new logistics route is currently under construction, and the first volumes of oil purchased for sea transportation could arrive in Hungary by the middle of the year.
