The man was taken out of Kyiv region and brought near Rechitsa.
The Russian military forcibly removed a Ukrainian citizen from Borodyanka, Buchanskiy district, Kyiv region, in March or April 2022. The man was left on the territory of Belarus, where he later died and was buried, writes Radye Svaboda.
Radiyo Svaboda has learned that the elderly man, like other Ukrainians who were forcibly taken to Belarus, was kept in the local church during the Russian occupation of Borodyanka, which at the time was under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate.
The Ukrainian was brought to the Gomel region, and in May 2022 was placed in the territorial center for social services in the village of Kholmech, Rechitsa district. He lived in the department of ensuring the permanent stay of elderly and disabled citizens, and died on September 9, 2025 at the age of 86.
The Ukrainian was buried in the local cemetery. A court in Ukraine has now declared him dead.
It is noted that in late March 2022, after the liberation of the Kiev and Chernihiv regions from Russian forces, it became known that the Russians were forcibly removing civilians to Belarus and then to Russia before withdrawing. Most of them fell into Russian captivity, while others were left behind in Belarus.
For example, it became known about the death of a Ukrainian citizen who had been taken away in a boarding house for the elderly in Vetka, Gomel region, three months after she had been forcibly deported by the Russian military from Kiev region to Belarus.
