Prices For Cremation Have Soared In Russia

The war with Ukraine has hit even the ritual services.

After the new year in Russia the cost of cremation has sharply increased, on average the service has risen by 20 thousand rubles, writes Baza. Representatives of large crematoriums called the main reason for the increase in housing and utilities tariffs. Thus, electricity for legal entities went up by 8-12%, while gas for household needs - by 7-10%. Additional pressure on prices was exerted by the shortage of spare parts for imported stoves and increased costs for mandatory gas cleaning systems against the background of increased demand.

Silest of all cremation rose in price in Moscow and the region. The growth amounted to 20-45 thousand rubles. For example, in Nikolo-Arkhangelsky crematorium (Balashikha) a standard package (service + urn) will now cost 80-85 thousand rubles against 45-50 thousand in the fall of 2025. In Khovan crematorium prices have increased by 8-10 thousand rubles per quarter. The increase occurred also in the regions: in Novosibirsk the cost of the service increased on average by 17 thousand rubles, in Murmansk - by 15 thousand, in Yekaterinburg - by 1-5 thousand.

At the same time cremation remains the most popular method of burial in the country. According to the channel's data, over the past two years, 60% of those who applied to it chose it, while the remaining 40% preferred traditional burial in the ground. Market participants attribute the growth in demand for cremation to the overcrowding of cemeteries, the possibility of under-burial urns without waiting for sanitary terms and a change in public attitudes to this ritual.

President of the Association of Crematoriums Alexei Suloev explained the growing popularity of cremation by the desire of Russians to save money because of the sharp rise in prices for traditional burial. According to Rosstat, since the beginning of 2022, against the background of the war with Ukraine, the manufacture of coffins in Russia has risen in price by 84%, and digging graves - by 51%.

In January-June 2025, traditional funerals cost an average of 30.8 thousand rubles - almost 15% more expensive than in the first half of 2024, and cremation cost 18.5 thousand rubles, calculated in "Taxcom".
