The U.S. president is putting pressure on Kiev again.
Ahead of a new round of trilateral peace talks in Geneva on February 17-18, United States President Donald Trump has issued a warning to Ukraine, saying he expects Kiev to actively participate in the upcoming negotiation process and hopes Ukraine reaches an agreement with Russian Federation as soon as possible.
As The Guardian, in comments to reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Washington, Trump stepped up pressure on Ukraine, demanding a quick deal with Russia.
"Ukraine had better get to the negotiating table as soon as possible," the US president said.
The two-day meeting in Switzerland, beginning Tuesday, is expected to be similar to talks earlier this month in Abu Dhabi, involving representatives from Washington, Kiev and Moscow. U.S. envoys Steve Whitkoff and Jared Kushner will represent the Trump administration at the talks.
At the same time, despite renewed U.S. efforts to step up diplomacy, hopes for a sudden breakthrough remain low as Russia continues to make maximalist demands on Ukraine.
