The Munich Conference Made A Historic Decision

This is the first time the Ewald von Kleist Prize has been awarded to an entire nation.

For the first time in history, the Ewald von Kleist Prize was awarded not to an individual leader or organization, but to an entire nation - Ukrainians, writes dialog.ua.

The nation of Ukraine was awarded the Ewald von Kleist Prize. The award was announced at the Munich Security Conference.

The details and footage of the award were published by Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky. He received the award on behalf of Ukrainians.

The Ewald von Kleist Award. Ewald von Kleist was awarded to an entire nation for the first time. Ukrainians received it for their courage, resilience and defense of European freedom.

"Thank you for this award for the Ukrainian people - an award of Ukrainian strength and our friendship... I am grateful to everyone who is with Ukraine. Thank you to everyone who is working to stop this war with real peace. Thank you for respecting our people," Zelensky said.

The Ewald von Kleist Award was established in 2009 by the Munich Security Conference. It is named in honor of Ewald-Heinrich von Kleist-Schmenzin, a German officer, a member of the anti-Nazi resistance and one of the founders of the conference. The award is given for contributions to international understanding, peace and security.

Before this awardees were mainly individual politicians and international organizations. Among them are Henry Kissinger, Javier Solana, Angela Merkel, Jens Stoltenberg, Kaja Kallas. The UN, Finland and Sweden have also received the prize in different years. However, the 2026 decision was unprecedented: for the first time, the award was given to an entire nation.

This move by the Munich conference was not only a symbolic gesture of solidarity, but also a political signal that Ukraine's struggle is seen as part of pan-European security.
