There are ample reasons for this.

Optimism that sanctions against Alexander Lukashenko's regime will soon be extended for another year was expressed by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kiastutis Budrys on February 14 at a panel dedicated to Belarus at the Munich Security Conference, writes "Pozirk".

"And this is the right decision, because first of all, one should remember the reasons why they were imposed," said the head of Lithuanian diplomacy. - These are human rights violations in 2020; [the situation when] an airplane flying to Vilnius was hijacked in 2021; then Russia's assistance [in the war against Ukraine] in 2022. And now we propose to further (and this has been agreed) to expand the sanctions regime against Belarus, taking into account hybrid activity against the EU."

"We have enough reasons to keep the sanctions in place. I can't imagine how they can be reviewed without Lukashenko fundamentally changing his behavior and being held accountable. So my answer is no. Next week we will, let's say, postpone this discussion for another year, because the sanctions will simply be extended," Budrys is convinced.
