Poland Passes Amnesty Law For Volunteers Fighting On The Side Of Ukraine

The decision was almost unanimous.

Poland's Sejm has passed a law exempting Polish citizens participating in hostilities on the side of Ukraine from liability, Polskie Radio 24 reports.

The decision was passed almost unanimously: 406 deputies voted in favor of the bill, while 19 abstained. Four more were against it.

According to the new law, the amnesty applies to Poles who fight on the side of Ukraine against Russia, as well as those who have already been convicted for participation in hostilities.

Today, in Poland, participation in foreign armed conflicts without the permission of the Ministry of Defense is punishable by imprisonment from three months to five years.

The document provides for the abolition of criminal liability for Polish volunteers who fight for Ukraine, as well as for those who recruited Polish citizens or foreigners to serve in the AFU.

The amnesty period begins on April 6, 2014. There are no exact statistics on the number of Poles who have participated or continue to participate in the war on the side of Ukraine.
