Two Russians Have Been Missing In Thailand For A Month

One of them was found dismembered.

Thai media on Feb. 1 reported the discovery in Pattaya of the remains of Russian Mikhail Emelyanov, who had been searched for since Jan. 7. The man was killed, his body was dismembered and buried in five different places. A day earlier it became known about the disappearance in Thailand of another Russian citizen - crypto investor Maxim Garbuzov. Relatives have been unable to contact the missing man since December 24, writes "Here's Tak".

Missing and murder of Mikhail Emelyanov

The body of Mikhail Emelyanov, a 30-year-old cannabis shop owner who had been living in Thailand for more than two years, was dismembered and buried in five locations near a pond in Pattaya, the Thai Daily News reported. Remains of clothing and other evidence led law enforcement officials to conclude that the body belonged to the Russian who disappeared 23 days ago.

In the phone of the deceased found messages from a man who demanded to return a debt of 120 thousand dollars and threatened Emelyanov to sell him for organs. According to local publication Pattaya News, police believe the debt was related to Emelyanov's cannabis business.

Before going missing, the Russian warned his mother that he was going to meet with two compatriots to negotiate a business deal. He noted that he felt unsafe. In a later message, Michael said he was traveling with the men from Pattaya to Bangkok and asked to contact police if he stopped contacting them. He had earlier borrowed 10,000 dollars from his mother to invest in his business.

Police have already detained the suspect and are conducting investigations, Thai media specify that the detainee is a foreigner.

Missing Maxim Garbuzov

The day before, on January 31, the St. Petersburg edition of "Fontanka" reported the disappearance of 24-year-old St. Petersburg resident Maxim Garbuzov, who had also been living in Thailand for the last few years.

Garbuzov, like Emelyanov, lived in Pattaya. According to relatives, he left home on December 24 last year on a motorcycle with a backpack and stopped making contact. Police were contacted by his landlady, to whom he failed to pay rent for the apartment for the first time in two years, RIA Novosti reported. The news agency calls Garbuzov a crypto investor and a Muay Thai (Thai boxing) fighter.

December 30, the brother of the missing man appealed to volunteers and reported that for more than a month Garbuzov has not responded to his messages on social networks and calls. Law enforcement officials determined that the last time the missing man used his credit card was on the evening of Dec. 24.
