No official reasons for the delay have been announced.

The second round of talks on ending the war in Ukraine has been postponed for several days after a meeting between Russian and U.S. representatives in Florida, The New York Times reported. The consultations were originally scheduled for Sunday, February 1, in Abu Dhabi, but are now expected to take place on February 4 and 5.

The day before, on January 31, U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Whitkoff held a meeting in Florida with Kirill Dmitriev - Vladimir Putin's special envoy and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund. The Ukrainian side did not take part in these talks. Details of the discussion were not disclosed, but Whitkoff called the meeting "productive and constructive" and said it showed Russia's willingness to "work to ensure peace in Ukraine."

The rescheduling of the dates was announced on the morning of Sunday, February 1, by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. He emphasized that Ukraine was ready for a substantive dialogue and was interested in the talks bringing "a real and dignified end to the war" closer. No official reasons for the delay were announced.

Earlier, on January 30, Zelensky admitted that the talks could be postponed due to tensions in the Middle East and a possible US strike on Iran. Washington deployed an aircraft carrier strike group led by the USS Abraham Lincoln off Iranian shores following Trump's statements about a possible response to the harsh crackdown on protests in Iran. On January 31, the US president declined to specify whether he had made a final decision on further action.

The previous round of talks on a settlement in Ukraine was held in the UAE on January 23-24. The US assessed the meeting positively, while Kiev called it substantive. According to RBC-Ukraine's sources, the greatest progress was made in the military block: the parties discussed the possible separation of forces, mechanisms to monitor the ceasefire and the establishment of a coordination center, agreeing to prepare proposals on the silence regime for the next meeting. At the same time, territorial issues remained without progress.

According to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the second round of talks should take place without the participation of the US side, which implies a bilateral meeting between the delegations of Ukraine and Russia.
