WSJ: Trump Ordered Plans For Quick Strikes On Iran
Donald Trump

The U.S. is preparing for decisive action without a long war.

U.S. President Donald Trump has instructed his team to work out options for swift military action against Iran that would be decisive but would not drag the United States into a prolonged war in the Middle East.

This is reported by The Wall Street Journal.

The publication's sources say Trump is expecting scenarios of strikes that could inflict such tangible damage on the Iranian regime as to force Tehran to make concessions. This is primarily about agreeing to Washington's demands on the nuclear program, as well as the release of political opponents and dissidents.

A series of large-scale airstrikes on the facilities of the Iranian authorities and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is considered among the toughest options. Such a scenario should demonstrate the strength and determination of the United States without launching a full-scale war.

A less radical approach is also being worked out in parallel - pinpoint strikes on symbolic targets. They should leave room for further escalation in case Iran refuses to conclude an agreement on terms acceptable to the Trump administration.

The day before, the US sent an additional warship to the Middle East because of heightened tensions with Iran.

So now the US Central Command's area of responsibility includes the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, destroyers USS Spruance, USS Murphy, USS Frank E. Petersen, USS McFaul, USS Mitscher, and three coastal combat ships USS Canberra, USS Tulsa, and USS Santa Barbara.
