The new system will use AI technology.

Volvo has expanded its partnership with NVIDIA to develop a new generation of autopilot technology that will eventually allow drivers to take their eyes off the road and hand control of the vehicle over to the system under certain conditions. The technology is designed to ensure safer driving on highways, busy city streets, and when parking, according to Autoblog.

The new system will utilize artificial intelligence technologies and NVIDIA’s computing platform, including the Hyperion architecture for sensors and computing, the Halos operating system, and the Alpamayo software suite for autonomous driving.

These technologies are designed, among other things, to create Level 4 autonomous driving systems. Under certain conditions, they allow the vehicle to operate without driver intervention, as is the case with robotaxis.

Volvo has not yet announced which models will be the first to be equipped with the new system. The launch is expected by 2030. By that time, the Swedish automaker plans to introduce 13 new models.

The company expects that the combination of autonomous driving and Volvo’s traditional focus on safety will help strengthen customer confidence. The new technology must be “safe, convenient, and worthy of customer trust,” according to a statement from the automaker.
