Dictator appoints enforcer involved in crackdown on protests.
Dictator Lukashenko appointed Colonel Alexander Ilyukevich as commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Belarus.
Major-General Vadim Denisenko was dismissed from military service due to age. The corresponding decrees were signed by dictator Alexander Lukashenko on January 9.
Before his appointment, Alexander Ilyukevich held the post of first deputy commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces. Before that, he was commander of the 38th Brest Independent Guards Airborne Assault Brigade.
In late 2020, Lukashenko awarded Ilyukevich and other law enforcers with state awards for the dispersal of protests after the August 9 election.
