SBU Shows Wreckage Of "Oreshnik", Which Russia Used To Hit Lviv

Among other things, the "brain" of the rocket was discovered.

The SBU has shown the wreckage of a Russian ballistic missile that Russian troops used to attack Lviv region on the night of January 8-9, 2026. The shelling qualifies as a war crime.

The Security Service of Ukraine reports that.

According to the investigation, law enforcers have established the place where the debris of the missile fell and seized its key elements. According to preliminary information, the found components belong to the Russian Oreshnik missile system.

The details discovered include:

stabilization and guidance unit, which is actually the "brain" of the rocket;

propulsion system components;

fragments of the orientation mechanism;

nozzles from the booster unit platform and other components.

All the wreckage has been given the status of physical evidence and is being prepared for transfer to in-depth examinations.

The SBU notes that the use of this missile against civilian infrastructure of Ukraine is a war crime on the part of the Russian Federation.

Preliminary data indicate that the launch of the medium-range surface-to-surface missile was carried out from the Russian Kapustin Yar test site.

Investigators believe that by striking near the border with the European Union, the Kremlin was trying to destroy the region's life support facilities amid a sharp deterioration in weather conditions.

The SBU is now establishing all the circumstances of the attack, as well as those involved in its organization and execution, in order to bring them to justice.
