Ukraine needs to ensure that young men stay in the country and do not go abroad.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said this at a press conference following a meeting of a "coalition of the willing," ntv.

Merz called on Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to ensure that young Ukrainian men do their military service in their country.

"Ukraine must guarantee this so that young men do not go to Germany, Poland or France," he said.

The Bild newspaper reported that about 1,000 applications for protection were coming in each week, up from about 100 previously. This has caused concern among German authorities and led to discussions about the need to tighten migration policy.
