The German Chancellor turned to Zielenski.

Ukraine needs to ensure that young men stay in the country and do not go abroad.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said this at a press conference following a meeting of a "coalition of the willing," ntv.

Merz called on Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to ensure that young Ukrainian men do their military service in their country.

"Ukraine must guarantee this so that young men do not go to Germany, Poland or France," he said.

Reminder, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on November 13 that the country had seen a significant increase in the number of young Ukrainians after Kiev allowed men aged 18 to 22 to leave the country.

Merz said he had asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to ensure military service inside the country so that young men would not go to Germany

Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, travel abroad for Ukrainian men of conscription age (18-60) has been banned. An exception for young people under 22 was made only in August 2024.

With the new rules in place, the number of Ukrainians arriving in Germany has increased dramatically. The Bild newspaper reported that about 1,000 applications for protection were coming in each week, up from about 100 previously. This has caused concern among German authorities and led to discussions about the need to tighten migration policy.
