Because of the war in Ukraine.
Russian State Duma deputy Andrey Gurulyov, known as one of the most aggressive "hawks" of the Russian parliament, unexpectedly publicly recognized the real scale of economic problems in the country. In a live broadcast, he actually reported a deep budget crisis and made it clear that one should not expect improvements before the end of the war, writes "Dialogue".
The resonant statement was made during an online conversation with residents of the Trans-Baikal Territory. One of the viewers asked when the authorities will be able to move the problem of resettlement of people from emergency housing. The deputy's answer was as straightforward as possible - it will not happen in the foreseeable future.
"Let me tell you honestly: today the budget of the Krai is simply not pulling. The deficit is colossal. They tell us that "everything is good", that "there is a lot of income", but look at the deficit figures and everything becomes clear: there is simply no money. In Petrovsk-Zabaikalsky, the head of the district even sent employees on leave without pay - there was nothing to pay their salaries with. This is the real situation," said Gurulyov.
He also admitted that federal programs for the resettlement of emergency housing were actually curtailed after the war against Ukraine began.
"After the beginning of the "SWO", to be frank, programs for emergency housing were stopped. Telling people that tomorrow we will solve this problem would be a lie. Until we breathe a little bit after the SWO, until we have money, we will not be able to sell this issue. I speak as it is in reality," the deputy added.
It is noteworthy that Gurulyov not only openly recognized the difficult financial situation of the region, but also directly linked it to the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine.
