Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has drawn up a plan to evacuate the country if Iranian security forces fail to quell protests. This was reported by The Times, citing an intelligence report.

The article said the 86-year-old Iranian leader plans to flee Tehran accompanied by his inner circle of 20 aides and family members if he sees the army and security forces start to side with protesters or stop following orders.

"Khamenei is fleeing to Moscow because there is no other place for him," Beni Sabti, who served for decades in Israeli intelligence after fleeing Iran eight years after the Islamic revolution, told the newspaper.

The escape plan, the Times notes, is based on the escape experience of deposed Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, who fled Damascus for Moscow in December 2024 to reunite with his family before the capital was overrun.
