The Kremlin's response so far remains formulaic.
Russia has publicly condemned the US military operation in Venezuela, but its response has been extremely restrained and largely formal. This is noted by analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
In particular, on January 3, the foreign ministers of Russia and Belarus Sergei Lavrov and Mikhail Ryzhenkov issued a joint statement in which they condemned U.S. actions in standard language and called on Washington to return Venezuela's ruler Nicolas Maduro and his wife to their homeland.
A more strident position was taken by the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitri Medvedev. He accused US President Donald Trump of violating international law, expressed support for Maduro, and used the situation to threaten German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
Russian State Duma deputies also criticized the US operation. According to them, the United States allegedly ignores the sovereignty of Western Hemisphere countries and seeks to establish control over Venezuela's oil resources.
As ISW analysts emphasize, the Kremlin's response so far remains formulaic and does not go beyond the usual rhetoric.
"The Kremlin will probably have to maneuver between the need to preserve its reputation as a reliable partner for other states and continuing to try to build relations with the Trump administration," the experts say.
