"For Your And Our Freedom!": Belarusians And Iranians Held A Joint Action In The Center Of Vilnius

Solidarity is our strongest weapon.

A rally under the slogans "For your and our freedom!" and "Stop the genocide of the Iranian people!" was held this afternoon in Vintsas Kudirki Square in the center of Vilnius. It was attended by representatives of the Iranian diaspora in Lithuania, activists of "European Belarus", "Narodnai Hramada", "Re:Belarus", former political prisoners. The slogans "Stop the genocide of the Iranian people", "Long Live Iran - Live Belarus!", "Today Iran - tomorrow Belarus!" were heard at the rally.

According to the organizers of the rally, the killing of peaceful demonstrators in Iran cannot be stopped without direct intervention of the West.

"We expect Western countries to fulfill the promises they made at the very beginning of the protest," Benjamin Darami, one of the leaders of the Iranian diaspora in Lithuania, told Charter97.org. - That they stop spreading propaganda of the Islamic Republic when ordinary people in Iran have no access to the Internet. That they stop any diplomatic relations with the Iranian regime because that regime does not represent the people.

We also need U.S. military intervention. It will be perceived by the Iranian people as support. People felt confident after Trump's address. He promised protection, he said that if people take to the streets and if the regime shoots at them and kills them, the US will come to the rescue. We expect these promises to be fulfilled."

"The idea for a joint action emerged half a month ago when we met with Iranians living in Vilnius," said Evgeny Afnagel, coordinator of the European Belarus civic campaign Eugene Afnagel. - We realized that we have approximately the same problems and tasks.

We demand the release of all Belarusian political prisoners and all political prisoners in Iran. We demand an end to repression in our countries.

We are opposed by the "dictatorial international" - Lukashenko, Putin, Khamenei and similar regimes. They exchange experience, support each other in everything. Both we and Iranians realize that the fall of any of the dictators will create huge difficulties for the others. That's why now Belarusians look at Iran with hope and, just like Iranians themselves, wait for an adequate reaction of the Western countries to the crimes of Khamenei's regime."
