In Greenland's capital Nuuk, an unidentified man attempted to plant a US flag, but he failed.
According to the Danish TV channel TV2 with reference to the local police, the intervention of passers-by prevented the flag from being raised.
Witnesses stopped the man before he could fix the cloth, after which the situation was resolved without serious consequences.

Who was behind the attempted flag installation
It was later revealed that the participant in the incident turned out to be German TV host and cabaret artist Maxi Schafroth. He works for the satirical program Extra 3, which airs on Norddeutsche Rundfunk.
Representatives of the broadcaster confirmed that a satirical film was being filmed in Nuuk and that the attempt to plant the flag was part of a staged episode.
The broadcaster's apology
The management of Norddeutsche Rundfunk officially admitted responsibility for the incident.
The company said that one of the crew members staged an attempt to hoist the U.S. flag without considering the possible reaction of local residents.
