The sides have come close to a deal to settle the Russia-Ukraine war, the upcoming negotiations have a chance, US President Donald Trump said while answering questions from reporters in the Oval Office. The White House is broadcasting on YouTube.

"[Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky and [Russian President Vladimir] Putin hate each other, and that makes [resolving the war] difficult. However, I believe that we are getting very close to reaching a settlement. <...> I think we have a good chance to reach a settlement," he said.

The White House chief said the upcoming talks have a chance including without the participation of Trump's special envoy Steve Whitkoff and the US president's son-in-law Jared Kushner.
