Vyacheslav Volodin has admitted that Russia cannot defeat Ukraine on the battlefield.
Russia must strike Ukraine with a "weapon of retaliation" to achieve victory in the war. Such a demand, as stated by the speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, is put forward by the deputy corps. "Deputies of the State Duma insist on the use of more powerful weapons - "weapons of retaliation". And achieving the goals of the 'special military operation'," the lower house chairman wrote in his Telegram channel.
Volodin also said that because of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, "already from next week" Ukrainian citizens are waiting for "new problems." The statement followed a claim by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov that Moscow had agreed to suspend strikes on Kiev until February 1 to, as he put it, ensure "favorable conditions" for peace talks.
The cessation of strikes on infrastructure was reported by Russian and Ukrainian military bloggers on Thursday morning. The announcement was followed by President Donald Trump, who explained that he had made a personal request to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin "not to strike Kiev and other cities and towns during the week" during the extreme cold weather. After a series of heavy shelling of infrastructure by Russia in January, thousands of residents of several Ukrainian cities, including its capital, were left without electricity, heating and water.
On the morning of January 30, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky said that there had been no direct talks between Kiev and Moscow on the issue: "If Russia does not hit our energy - we will not hit their energy. I think this is the answer that the mediator of the negotiations - the United States - was counting on."
February 1 to 3 in Ukraine, according to forecasters, the maximum cold is expected: the temperature in most regions of the country will drop to 20-27 degrees below zero, and in some areas - to -30 degrees. Gradual weakening of cold weather will begin on February 4-5.
