And invited Putin to Kiev
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has categorically ruled out the possibility of holding a meeting with Vladimir Putin in Moscow or any other Russian city. He emphasized that he sees no point in such negotiations and is ready to publicly invite the Kremlin chief to Kiev if he decides to come.
Zelensky announced this in a comment to journalists and added that any proposals for a meeting in Moscow are unacceptable and are often voiced in cases when someone cannot refuse directly.
"I can also invite him to Kiev, let him come. I invite him publicly, if he decides of course. But if someone does not want to meet, but cannot afford to say it directly for some reason, then these invitations to Moscow are made," the president said.
In his comments to journalists, Volodymyr Zelensky said that he did not rule out the possibility of postponing the next meeting between Ukraine and Russia. The President explained that the meeting was initially scheduled for Sunday in Abu Dhabi and it is important that all the agreed participants are present, because feedback is expected to be exchanged. At the same time, he added that the date or venue could change due to circumstances related to the situation between the US and Iran, which he believes could affect the schedule of the talks.
Reminder that on January 28, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that Vladimir Zelensky could come to Moscow to meet with Vladimir Putin, with the Russian side allegedly guaranteeing the Ukrainian leader's safety.
According to Ushakov, the issue of holding the talks is not new for the Kremlin and has been repeatedly discussed during the Russian president's contacts with US representatives. He emphasized that Russia had never rejected this format of peace talks and was ready to hold them on condition of thorough preparation and a clear focus on concrete results.
Putin's aide added that the Russian side was ready to receive Zelensky in Moscow, provide all the necessary conditions for work and guarantee his security if the Ukrainian president was really determined to meet.
