The John F. Kennedy nuclear-powered ship is one of the most powerful in the world.

On January 28, the new nuclear-powered aircraft carrier CVN 79 John F. Kennedy took to the sea for the first time for factory sea trials from HII Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, Virginia. This is reported by USNI News.

John F. Kennedy is the second ship of the Gerald R. Ford type. The contract to build the aircraft carrier for the U.S. Navy was awarded to HII Newport News Shipbuilding on January 15, 2009.

The first steel cutting ceremony for the ship took place in Newport News on February 25, 2011, and on May 29, 2011, the U.S. Department of the Navy named the ship John F. Kennedy.

The official laying down ceremony for CVN 79 John F. Kennedy was held on August 22, 2015, and the aircraft carrier's launching ceremony was held on October 29, 2019. A christening ceremony for the John F. Kennedy was held on December 7, 2019. The ship is scheduled to be handed over to the U.S. Navy in March 2027.
