The dictator of Belarus owes the Kremlin a huge sum.
The Federation Council and the State Duma ratified the agreement between the governments of Russia and Belarus on changing the terms of certain intergovernmental agreements in the field of credit cooperation. This is reported by BelTA.
The document, signed in June last year, refers to the deferral of payments on loans provided by Moscow to Minsk. Its provisions are confidential.
Russian Deputy Finance Minister Vladimir Kolychev, however, revealed the main point of the agreement at a hearing in the lower house of parliament. It is about debt restructuring, which provides for the postponement of payments in repayment of Minsk's principal debt for the period 2032-2037.
A similar agreement ratified last year provided for debt repayment in 2031-2036. It was about $800 million, which Minsk was initially supposed to repay from April 1 to December 31, 2025 and from July 1 to December 31, 2024.
