Polish Defense Minister Urges NATO To Bring Defense Spending To 5% Of GDP

By 2030.

Polish National Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz has called on NATO countries to accelerate the build-up of military spending and reach the level of 5% of GDP already by 2030. The statement was made at a meeting with military attaches accredited in Poland, a recording of the speech was published on the website of the republic's Defense Ministry.

Mr. Kosiniak-Kamysz said that the alliance should not wait until 2035 and needs to reach the target earlier. Accelerating the pace would strengthen collective defense and increase the resilience of the bloc's countries, he said.

The decision to gradually increase defense spending to 5 percent of GDP by 2035 was taken by NATO leaders at a summit in The Hague in June 2025 at Washington's initiative.
