The tankers were carrying sub-sanctioned oil from Russia, Iran and Venezuela.
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry's Main Directorate of Intelligence has unmasked 66 "shadow fleet" figure ships of Russia, Iran and Venezuela that are transporting under-sanctioned oil.
The Telegram GUR reports.
The GUR in the "Marine Vessels" section of the War&Sanctions portal has released data on vessels of the "shadow fleet" of Russia, Iran and Venezuela, as well as vessels involved in the theft of Ukrainian grain and violation of Ukraine's state border.
In particular, Ukraine's military intelligence revealed the activities of tankers from the network of the Cymare Shipmanagement Ltd (Cyprus) and Cymare Navigation FZC (UAE) group of companies.
It is noted that since 2023 and until now the tanker fleet of the group of companies Cymare Shipmanagement Ltd (Cyprus) and Cymare Navigation FZC (UAE) freely provides Russia with petrodollars to continue the war against Ukraine, hiding behind the registration of companies in member states of the European Union.
The top manager of this group - Nikolay Spichenok, a British citizen, has long worked and continues to work in senior positions in the largest state-owned shipping company of the Russian Federation - PAO Sovcomflot, as well as in related structures.
Sovcomflot, which is under sanctions by most countries of the sanctions coalition, provides transportation of Russian oil, oil products and liquefied gas, cooperating with leading Russian oil and gas companies and traders.
Now Sovcomflot tankers, particularly those involved in the transportation of oil and oil products from/to Venezuela, are massively changing their flags to Russian ones, in fact confirming their involvement in serving the military and economic interests of the aggressor state.
Such "shadow fleet" vessels previously flew under the flags of third countries to avoid sanctions by Western countries.
This trend directly corresponds to the provisions of the Maritime Doctrine of the Russian Federation, which provides for:
expansion of the civilian fleet under the flag of the Russian Federation and its use to ensure "national interests" in the oceans;
strengthening mobilization readiness in the maritime sphere;
integration of pre-trained civilian vessels and crews into the armed forces of the Russian Federation in wartime.
GUR urged captains and crews of "shadow fleet" vessels to avoid cooperation with shady companies-operators of vessels.
"Unscrupulous operators of the "shadow fleet" disappear first as soon as the vessel comes under the attention of law enforcement agencies, leaving sailors alone with legal, financial and humanitarian consequences of the crime," the intelligence agency said.
