They are on their way to RF.
Two Russian sailors from the Bella 1 tanker (Mariner) captured by the United States in early January have been released, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told the TASS news agency that the sailors were on their way to Russia.
The U.S. side has not yet confirmed this information.
The tanker Bella 1 was seized by the U.S. military on January 7 in the northern Atlantic Ocean. The U.S. pursued the tanker for several days. In the process, the vessel, which was first flying a Panamanian flag, changed it to a Russian flag and was renamed Marineru and entered into the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping. After the vessel was seized, its crew was detained. The White House said the sailors face criminal prosecution.
Two Russians were part of the tanker's crew. The Russian Foreign Ministry said it had asked Donald Trump to release them. However, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Jan. 20 that the U.S. has yet to do so.
