Transport aircraft and refueling planes have also been moved into the region.

The United States has deployed Patriot surface-to-air missile systems and THAAD missile defense systems to the Middle East, near Iran.

The Economist reports The Economist.

The publication says that transport aircraft and refueling planes have also been moved to the region. The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, which earlier left the South China Sea, is probably now in the Gulf of Oman region. Its air wing and escort destroyers are in the potential strike zone.

The redeployment of forces has also affected combat aviation: several F-15E aircraft have arrived from British bases. According to Flightradar24 and ADS-B Exchange, C-17A Globemaster III military transport planes were delivering supplies from Robert Gray Airfield, associated with the 62nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment at Fort Cavazos.

There were six flights over three days to Ali-al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait and one to Prince Sultan Base in Saudi Arabia.

The Economist assessed that US President Donald Trump has probably not yet made a final decision on a possible strike. At the same time, in informal conversations, representatives of the Persian Gulf countries suggest a high probability of a large-scale US military operation with a focus on Iran's political leadership.

A number of media reports say the United States is considering a series of strikes on Iran amid mass protests in the Asian country.
