There is an influential group in the US on this issue.
Ukraine is seeking Tomahawk cruise missiles from the United States in order to more effectively pressure the aggressor country Russia if peace talks are derailed.
The Kyiv Post writes about this. According to the publication, there is a small but increasingly influential group in the United States that is initiating the transfer of these American weapons to Ukraine.
At the center of this initiative is the president of the American University in Kiev and former special advisor to the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Dan Rice.
He met with U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Haggsett at the Pentagon this week, during which he urged consideration of supplying Ukraine with a limited number of Tomahawk missiles using a ground-based mobile launch system.
On what condition Trump might approve providing Ukraine with Tomahawk
Rice believes that U.S. President Donald Trump could indeed support the idea of supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk, but only if Russia refuses peace.
"Putin responds only to force. If he does not agree to peace, in my opinion, there is a high probability that President Trump will approve the use of Tomahawk," Rice emphasized.
The publication notes that despite Rice's conviction, there is no common ground within the Trump administration. While some officials believe that the U.S. missiles could indeed become a leverage for Russia in the negotiation process, others fear that handing over the Tomahawk would conversely derail diplomatic efforts.
