European Commission Approves Defense Plans Of Eight EU Countries For 74 Billion Euros

Poland will get the most.

The European Commission has agreed the defense plans of Estonia, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Finland under SAFE, after which the EU Council has four weeks to make a final decision on the allocation of loans to strengthen military readiness.

This is reported by "European Pravda" with reference to the official report of the European Commission.

The Commission has submitted a proposal to the EU Council to provide funding to the following countries: Estonia, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Finland. Moreover, Poland's plan envisages receiving almost 44 billion euros - the most of any state participating in the program.

After signing the loan agreements, these eight states will have access to financing of about 74 billion euros. These are concessional long-term loans intended for strategic military capacity building.

The EU Council now has four weeks to formally decide on implementation.

After the agreements are finalized, the first disbursements are expected to reach the countries as early as March 2026.

In parallel, Brussels continues to assess the plans of the remaining EU member states to enter the next waves of funding.

The SAFE Regulation was adopted on May 27, 2025 as part of the ambitious Readiness 2030 package. On January 15, the European Commission approved the applications of the first group of EU countries for rearmament funding.
