Estonia Refused To Let Belarusian Fencers Into The Country

The European Championships have been moved to France.

The International Fencing Federation (FIE) has notified the Estonian Fencing Union (EVL) that the right to host the European Championship, which was to be held in June in Tallinn, has been transferred to France. Such a decision was made because of Tallinn's refusal to let in athletes from Belarus and Russia, who compete in a neutral status. About it writes Õhtuleht.

"The decision was made as early as January 14, but we were informed about it only today," said EVL Secretary General Aivar Paalberg to the publication.

According to Delfi, late last year it became known that the European Fencing Championships, which were to be held this year in Tallinn, were canceled.

The reason was the requirement of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate. Estonia does not issue visas to athletes from these countries.
