Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said Belarus is helping Russian drones bypass Ukrainian air defenses. Euroradio asked a Belarusian aerial scout with the call sign Krot, who fought in Ukraine, what this might look like.
He suggested that Russia might have brought powerful REB (electronic warfare) complexes into Belarus. These complexes jam air defense radar stations, interfere with communication channels and distort the radar environment. This reduces the range from which Ukrainian REBs can see the targets. It also complicates the process of tracking these targets.
- Also from Belarus, electronic reconnaissance can be conducted, i.e. interception of signals of Ukrainian radars, determination of frequencies, modes of operation and location of air defense. Further, this data can be used to suppress or bypass the radar, - explained Krot.
Krot does not exclude that these actions can be supplemented by the work of air complexes.
- We are talking about radar and airborne reconnaissance planes - such as the one damaged in Machulishchi. After all, the higher the radio horizon, the greater the coverage," explains Mole.
He adds that the north of Ukraine is mostly plain, and such a relief only makes it easier to work from the Belarusian side.
