Degradation Of The Russian Economy: "Russian Railways" Cuts Investments For The Third Year In A Row

Ukrainian intelligence revealed the details.

Russian Railways has cut investments for the third year in a row. In particular, the investment program for 2026 has been cut by almost one-fifth, which demonstrates the recognition of managerial failure.

The website of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine reports that against the background of chronic stagnation of the transport system, such a cut in funding only accelerates its degradation. Now instead of development and modernization most of the resources are directed to "primitive maintenance of worn-out funds and minimal provision of transportation safety.

"Especially critical is the situation with four projects that were supposed to increase the capacity of approaches to the Baltic ports. Judging by the financing, their realization in 2026 is actually derailed. This means that strategic directions remain blocked and the economy loses opportunities for exports," the report says.

The SVRU noted that the fall in investment continues for the third year in a row, indicating a systemic crisis of transport infrastructure.

This in turn leads to the fact that key projects are not implemented, contractors remain unemployed, and the railway network is in decline.

"These are not just problems of an individual industry - they are a reflection of the general degradation of the Russian economy, which is unable to support even basic investment programs," the publication said.

An additional signal of this weakness was the decision to postpone for three years the start of construction of the "Arctic railway corridor - the Northern Latitudinal Railway, the cost of which exceeds 800 billion Russian rubles. As Intelligence writes, the sources of funding have not been identified, so the project's prospects are elusive.

"Against this background, the government's plans to "revive airships" are actually a desperate attempt to create the illusion of technological development. The Concept until 2035 calls cargo and passenger airships a 'promising technology', but in the context of a systemic shortage of funds and the failure of key infrastructure projects, such statements only emphasize the chaotic and helpless nature of transport policy," the SVRU added.

Resuming all of the above, the scouts concluded that the tone of the market is obvious: investments are being cut, projects are being derailed, and strategic plans are turning into fantasies.
