Sweden Detains Ex-army Officer For Spying For Russia

The suspect may have been working under the control of Russian intelligence.

Sweden has detained a male espionage suspect who previously worked for the Armed Forces, SVT reports.

The man, who is being held on suspicion of espionage, is suspected of working for Russia.

"The investigation so far indicates that the suspect was in the hands of Russian intelligence," senior prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist said.

The man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of espionage.

The man, who is about 35 years old, worked as a consultant to the armed forces through an IT consulting company between 2018 and 2022.

In Poland, a man was detained in late April who could film railway infrastructure and the transportation of military equipment and later post the footage on a special messenger channel; he is suspected of espionage.
