Trump Announces 'big Money' Allocation For Defense

More than $1 trillion.

The Donald Trump administration will spend more than $1 trillion on defense next year, the U.S. president himself announced in a speech to generals.

"I have committed to spending more than one trillion dollars on our military in 2026, and that's [the highest amount] in the history of our country. One trillion dollars. That's a lot of money. I hope you're enjoying it, ladies and gentlemen. <...> We have to be the best at everything," he said.

Before that, Trump emphasized that the U.S. would not be "politically correct" when it comes to "protecting our freedom" and promised that the U.S. military would be a "fighting and winning machine." Speaking before him, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said he intended to end "a decade of decline," including by returning to a "superior male standard" for combat positions.

The U.S. has approved a record $895 billion defense budget for fiscal year 2025. In April, Trump announced that the White House would approve a defense budget for the next fiscal year of "about" $1 trillion.

In his speech, the American president also recalled plans to deliver 19 new ships to the U.S. Navy, including submarines, destroyers and assault ships. At the same time, Trump noted that he does not like "ugly ships."
