If you go against your own people, sooner or later you may be affected.
The coordinator of the civil campaign "European Belarus" Maksim Viniarski was sentenced to 5 years for allegedly "preparation for participation in mass riots". September 11, the activist was released from jail together with other prisoners and taken to the Lithuanian border. "Radio Svaboda" asked the former prisoner about the sentiments of convicts, human rights behind bars and public support.
Colony officials know what the real attitude of people to the authorities is, says Maksim Viniarski. Some even share the views of the majority of Belarusians, while some are afraid, he adds.
"If you go against your people, carry violence, repression, sooner or later it may affect you. Recently, an employee involved in the Tut.by case went to the colony. He was sent there for a corruption offense, but the authorities got rid of the witness," says Vinyarski.
