You can't teach an old dog new tricks.
Political scientist Arkadiy Moshes told in his commentary gazetaby whether we should expect China's intervention on the Polish-Belarusian border and what mistake Lukashenko is making.
- If he looked at the world a little differently, including through the eyes of the Chinese, he should have completed the "Migrants" operation without delay. Present it in such a way that for the sake of preserving transit, good relations with China, and improving bad but necessary relations with Europe, he's going for it.
Although Poland, by the way, won't have enough of that - Radoslaw Sikorski's list contains clear positions: Andrzej Poczobut, Pope Henrych Okolotowicz, and there could potentially be more serious questions about the role of the Catholic Church in Belarus.
Nevertheless, if Lukashenko tried to resolve the Belarusian-Polish crisis, to stop being a military appendage of Russia - maybe something would work out. But he is taking the easier way, as it seems to him, not realizing that no one will build a new big geopolitical paradigm as a result of the release of two dozen hostages.
It is not for nothing that they say that you can't teach an old dog new tricks. For Belarus, what is happening is a tragedy, while for future history textbooks this stage of Lukashenko's rule will be perceived as a farce.
