This is confirmed by information from the Ukrainian military.
Russian forces claim advances on all fronts in Ukraine, but Ukrainian sources record local defense successes. Both sides are preparing for new clashes.
Reuters reports Reuters.
Presidential and military departments of both countries continue to provide conflicting information on the progress of fighting in eastern Ukraine.
Information from Russia
On Wednesday, September 17, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that General Valery Gerasimov, chief of staff of the Russian Armed Forces, visited the positions of his troops and noted that the advance of Moscow forces is being carried out in almost all directions.
He said the biggest clashes are taking place in the Krasnoarmeysk (Soviet name Pokrovsk) area, where Ukrainian units are trying to stop the advance, but without success.
The Russian general also mentioned the advance of troops to the west - in the Zaporizhzhya and Dnipropetrovsk regions, and north to Kupyansk and Yampol, where fighting is underway with infrastructure being destroyed.
Information from Ukraine
At the same time, Ukrainian officials and President Vladimir Zelensky have noted the limited success of the enemy on the front. In an interview with Sky News, Zelensky said that despite the expectation of new Russian attacks, the last three Russian offensives have not yielded significant results, although Kiev is preparing for possible larger-scale attacks.
Ukrainian commanders claim that their troops have repelled an offensive near Pokrovsk, while data from open sources such as the DeepState military blog records localized successes of Ukrainian defenses in neighboring areas. Near Kupyansk, an attempted advance by Russian troops, according to AFU representatives, resulted in the capture of some of the enemy.
The situation on the front continues to be tense: Russian claims of advancement are questionable, while the Ukrainian side records local counterattacks and strengthening of defenses.
Some sides are preparing for possible new offensives, which indicates that fighting will continue and the situation in the east of the country needs to be constantly monitored.
